Silverman (1914-1966) (Harvard, S.D. 1943) was professor of engineering in environmental hygiene at Harvard from 1958, and served as head of the Department of Industrial Hygiene of the Harvard School of Public Health. He was also director of the radiological hygiene program at Harvard. He was recognized for his basic and applied research on control measures relating to industrial air pollution; and his work led to the development of a method of cleaning industrial fiber filters.
